Maybe it’s all about work.
Everyone depends on you. No matter how much you do, it’s never enough.
No matter how much time you spend, you can’t ever seem to catch up. Nothing but work – at the expense of everything else.
Your family life suffers, your relationships suffer, you’re grouchy and burned out.
Or maybe it’s all about them.
You’re on call 24/7. The days never end – each one blending unremittingly into the next, the lines and responsibilities blurring.
You love them. You just want to enjoy the relationship you have (child, spouse, sibling, etc.), but it’s getting harder to control those feelings of loss, disappointment, anguish – and yes, anger and even resentment.
Whatever the reason, it’s all just too much.
Sometimes, you feel surrounded by total darkness. Isolated. Alienated.
Nobody really understands what you’re going through. How could they?
It’s beginning to feel you’re in a pressure cooker – ready to explode.
But it doesn’t have to. You’re not alone, and there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
But we can make it – together.
Working together, one-on-one, lets us get into the nitty-gritty of what’s happening in your life, why it’s happening, and how we can work together to design solutions, make changes and rediscover your sense of “YOU.”
In individual therapy, the focus is on you… and uncovering your hidden or underutilized strengths.
We’ll craft a unique and creative treatment plan – no cookie-cutter approaches to your treatment.
Together, we’ll find what really works for you.
Sometimes, it feels like trial and error, but, sometimes, that’s the way change happens. If we all had clear roadmaps and perfect lives, then we wouldn’t have any opportunity for growth and discovery.
All stages and all ages – exploring various life transitions
I enjoy working with folks of all ages, ethnic, racial, and gender orientations. Working with them – and learning what makes them who they are.
I counsel people exploring issues of gender, sexuality, race, and privilege, and clients experiencing chronic and/or life-threatening illnesses such as COPD, HIV/AIDS, and cancer.
I’m experienced in working with clients and caregivers in end-of-life issues.
I understand. I’ve been there, too.
I’ve led a rich life with varied experiences and roles, from environmental educator to farmer to business owner to lawyer to therapist. So, I understand the stressors of working in a high-pressure environment.
I’m both a parent and a grandparent (my favorite jobs EVAH!!). My four kids are grown-ups now, but these roles have been the highlights of my life, even nowadays. I even loved the teenage years… crazy, I know! So, I understand the challenges of raising kids… and the tension of being a good Mom versus letting your kids find their own way.
Two sons are on the front lines: a first responder (firefighter/paramedic) and an Army officer – so, I understand the stressors inherent in parenting and the challenges faced by those in service to our communities and our country, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s not too late to find yourself again
It’s true; everyone depends on you. And you don’t want to let them down. But to do what you need to do, you need to care for yourself first.
All those feelings you’re experiencing have their place in your life – and can be signposts (or red flags) to help you realize you need to make self-care a priority.
