Addiction & Recovery

We are not just our substance…

Dealing with an addiction is not just about the substance or the habit. It’s about dealing with the whole person.

What makes you YOU and defines your experience? Is it your world?

Or is it your view of self and your view of self in relation to others and the universe?

Stress is a trigger.

Working for someone else and feeling like no matter what you do, you can never catch up or do enough can make you feel like nothing but work matters. And workaholism leads to other addictions.

Your family life suffers, your relationships suffer, you are grouchy and burned out. So, you look for relief, and sometimes, that relief becomes a habit that you can’t get out from underneath. It feels like nobody understands the pressures you face.

“Yes, the craziness of a high-pressure environment, whether it be at work or home, creates a lot of stress. I get it. It’s natural to look for ways to relieve stress.”

But when life makes us feel like a pressure cooker, ready to blow its top, and we become dependent on the wrong sources of relief, then it’s time to reach out and get help.

Habits are easy to form and hard to break.

Addiction is not one-dimensional. It’s not easy-peezy-lemon-squeezy “just say no…”

But through therapy, we can delve into what’s behind the habits, behaviors, or substance use. We can ask, “Why or how did this addiction start?”

We can consider what you need to change so you can create new, positive, healthy habits… those that are in line with who you really are…deep down inside.

We’ll dig into the sense of self, empowerment, culture, and identity to dust off those unique qualities that make you… and reimagine the strengths that might be buried deep.

Let’s challenge those stressors.

My goal is to work with you to identify the underlying causes of your addiction. Then, we can work to make changes and remove those negative habits.
